About Shauna

My vision is to provide opportunities for students to be creative, collaborative and pursue their interests while building the strong foundational skills that will allow them to develop their abilities and successfully express themselves.

With over 25 years teaching experience, creating curricula across several disciplines, from preschool to post-secondary, I am able to draw on a wide variety of experience for each project or class.

I have been teaching music, in a variety of ways, since 1986, two of my areas of specialization being private piano instruction and preschool music classes. I have taught music classes at several community centres in Vancouver, was given the opportunity to lead some musical experiences for selected classes from K – Gr. 7 at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and am currently teaching music at several Vancouver preschools. My own educational background is through the Royal Conservatory program in piano and graduating from the Trebas Institute of Recording Arts, specializing in Recorded Music Production, in 1991. I also have a diploma from the VSB in Using Music as a Tool for Child Development.

Creative Expressions has been a continually evolving project since 2010, spanning age ranges from 3-9 years old. The students consistently give me new ideas to share with other classes and with the Montessori Arts Course I teach to students working toward their Montessori Early Childhood Teaching Credentials. The crossover between teaching children and teaching teachers has been instrumental in deepening the importance I place on exploration and discovery in the classroom and has reminded me how much I love “doing” art!
