Creative Expressions is a multi-disciplinary arts program I have created and facilitate for primary elementary students (K-3). It combines elements of visual art (various media), music, movement, drama and/or creative writing for multi-aged groups. The group collaborates to produce individual and group work centred on a theme (often decided on by the students) over several classes. Although a variety of arts techniques are introduced, other important learning/life skills such as problem solving, cooperation, collaboration, leadership and communication will be an essential part of creating the work. Each child will have a chance to contribute to every part of the production and/or display regardless of his or her skill level or previous experience.
Past projects have included:
A pirate musical
A dramatization of “Where the Wild Things Are”
Paintings and poetry set to musical accompaniment on the theme of “Spring”
Paintings and a dance sequence on the theme of “Fall”
A dramatization with handmade clay props of “Stone Soup”
A group writing project entitled “The Never Ending Story”
Art/movement/drama on the theme of “Sea Creatures”
and more…
